PROJECTS

GLA

Groove Leadership Academy (GLA) was established well before Atlanta Achieve One came into extistence. In fact, it was the desire to take Groove Leadership Academy further, to reach more high school men and progress to the next level, that's why Atlanta Achieve One LLC was conceived.

Groove Leadership Academy takes young men of the future as far as they can grow by exposing them to a variety of activities that enhance their high school experience and follows them into their college years, offering additional support and guidance.

The young men of GLA are also instilled with the sense of giving back to the community. Volunteer projects play a major role in their activities. To date the young men have volunteered for a United Way women's homeless shelter,  St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Atlanta Mission and other organizations.

SCHOLARSHIP

At the end of their high school careers, if the students enrolled in Groove Leadership Academy decide to go on to college, the Academy will assist with their choice by awarding a scholarshp. The scholarships can be used to augment their tuition or to purchase books or other sustaining material.

To date, the Academy has helped twenty-five young men with scholarships. This has been accomplished with donations and fundraising efforts of local chapter members of Atlanta Graduate Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. The ultimate goal of Groove Leadership Academy is to increase the number of young men attending higher education institutions and to increase the scholarships to support them in their decision.

PAST PROJECTS

Before working with the young men at Groove Leadership Academy, for fifteen years the volunteers assisted at risk young men in the foster care system. Without a doubt these young men were on the verge of dropping out of school and out of society. In fact, they were in danger of either joining gangs or becoming incarcerated.

The volunteers worked with the young men to help fill the void created when they were removed from their homes for long periods of time, sometimes until they reached adulthood.

CAREERS

Career choice is important to leading a successful, sustaining life. The young men who choose to become a part of Groove Leadership Academy are given the opportunity to explore career choices before leaving high school.

The young men have visited radio stations, architectural firms, shadowed entrepreneurs, heard from airline pilots (as shown below) and various other professions, many of whom are represented by members of the founding organization,
